Spotlight Story - Behind Ocean Lines

We are so excited to be premiering season two of Beyond the Pass in just a few weeks! This season we are focusing on talking to folks in corners of the industry that are often looked over - by the general public and the industry in general. So often discussions of improvement and safety are centred around people in the industry that the average person interacts with more regularly, our morning coffee shop or our favourite restaurant in central with a screaming deal on CODE, leaving an enormous amount of folks invisible and ignored.

To kick off season two we are talking to chef and author Melanie White. What began as a personal documentation of a career as a yacht chef, Melanie’s memoir Behind Ocean Lines is a powerful story shining light into the dark crevices of the luxury yachting industry.

Behind Ocean Lines was eye opening - both in it’s detailed account of the challenges of life in the yachting industry but also of the extraordinary skill and excitement of building menus all over the world in a match box size kitchen. Focusing on the intersection of mental health and self care, our conversation was a reminder of how far we still have to go in taking care of those in our industry and the extraordinary resilience and culinary creativity of the people that comprise it.

We can’t wait to share our conversation with you. The episode will drop on October 27th wherever you get your podcasts.
